1st,2nd and 3rd paid tribute to Karen Weekes, Ireland's first female solo rower to cross the Atlantic on an unassisted voyage. Karen left Gran Canaria on December 6th 2021 and spent 82 days at sea, coping with monstrous waves, storms and even had an encounter with a hammer-head shark. Miss O'Meara's class had been following Karen's voyage closely using the live tracker on her 'She Can Do' website. The children played Ireland's Call on the tin-whistle and also sang "The Wellerman" using "Millie", the name of Karen's boat in the song. We are all very proud in Clonlisk to support this very brave lady on such a daunting trip. Hopefully she will make a visit to our school and fill us in, in detail on her amazing adventure.
