Debating in the Sunshine!

Having seen the great interest shown by pupils in the Concern Primary School Debating Competition, it was decided to provide an opportunity for all pupils in the senior room to participate in a debate. Pupils were randomly sorted into teams of 3 or 4 and assigned a motion to research. The two motions debated were:

(1) TikTok has done more harm than good for children's confidence.

(2) The weekend should be three days long.

Today, four debating teams competed against each other outside in the sunshine in front of the whole school. Teachers & SNAs acted as adjudicators in what turned out to be hotly contested affairs. Congratulations to all participants, especially those for whom it was their first time delivering a speech in front of a large crowd. The ability to stand up in front of your peers and express your viewpoint, as well as analysing the merits and flaws in the arguments of others, are skills that will last a lifetime.

Many thanks to Tony Óg who acted as chairperson and to our timekeepers, Amy & Matthew.
