For the past two or three weeks in 3rd & 4th Class, we have been learning about Italy. We learnt about 'The Carnevale of Venice', Michelangelo, the Sistine Chapel and the Romans. We did a lot of fun artwork like painting under our tables while lying on our backs and making masks. We also created a modern day Mona Lisa (most had masks on!).
We learnt that in battles, the Romans had a famous battle formation called the 'tortoise', where they would use their shields to form a shell. The Roman army was divided into different groups so that there was a clear chain of command when battles were being fought. There was a 'contubernium' which had 8 soldiers, a 'century' with 80 soldiers, a 'cohort' with 480 soldiers and a 'legion' with 4800-5000 soldiers.
We learnt about two mountain ranges as well as the main rivers and lakes such as the R. Po, the R. Tiber and Lake Garda. Did you know that Italy has two islands? They are called Sicily & Sardinia. Italy's biggest mountain is Mont Blanc/Monte Bianco which is located in the Alps.
Italy has a Mediterranean climate which means it has hot summers and cool winters.
Thank you for reading my piece about Italy. I hope that you enjoyed it. 😊
