Crane for Hire!

We set ourselves a challenge to make a crane. We drew some drafts of what the crane would look like. We agreed on a design and we gathered materials such as: boxes, cable ties, motors, fishing line, timber cuboids, timber cylinder, batteries, electrical wire, crocodile clips and wire strippers. We encountered many problems that we needed to solve during the construction of the crane. We changed the boom because we needed a strong and sturdy one that could support a light weight. The motor caused us the most trouble. At the start, we used one motor but the cylinder reel kept spinning off.We decided to put a second motor on the other side of the reel. This worked well because the cylinder was spinning from both sides. The line kept catching in the side of the real we cut a groove into the middle of the reel and this kept the reel in place. We added 3 batteries to the circuit so that we'd have more power in the motors to reel in the line. We still couldn't lift heavy weights because the motor was spinning and we didn't have grooves inside the pulley. However our crane worked well at lifting light items and we're delighted with our construction.
